Sugar scrubs have changed my life. I was a practicing massage therapist and active personal trainer in 1995. My hands would hurt each time I would use a salt scrub on a client because my hands and skin were torn up from the weights. One day I realized the salt looked just like sugar and so I decided to switch my formulation. It was magic! My clients and I both loved it. The sugar had a finer more exfoliating feel and there was nothing that was stinging their skin either. I was in heaven because my hands didn t hurt for hours afterwards. There it started, and where it evolved to is a whole other story.
I was pregnant with my first child, and I was looking to work, but more from the home so I could be a stay at home mom. I was selling my sugar scrub to my massage clients and decided to start handing it out to other friends to see their reaction. I would use mayonnaise and baby food jars to hand out samples. I have always loved inspirational sayings and to surprise everyone I would hide little inspiring words and phrases into each of the products. Everyone loved the product and their little surprise! I was convinced that this would be my new business. The formulation has evolved to becoming a shaving scrub. I realized that with my son I didn t have as much time to pamper myself in the shower. I decided I needed to make an all in one product and since the shaving gels always irritated my skin I knew I had to develop this scrub more to be able to use as a shaving scrub. I initially had trouble, and cut my legs up pretty bad as the guinea pig of my new product. Thankfully I didn t give up because the day I cut myself the worst was the day I realized how to make it work! From that day in 1999 I have never gone a day without my sugar scrub!
I have since formulated our skin sorbet which is a blended shea butter and sugar scrub that stays blended so there is no separation and is a much softer exfoliation. This one is also able to be used as your shaving cream. As a mother of 3 now, I appreciate the ability to combine the necessities of life , so I have more time to be with my kids.
These products have created an incredible business for myself and enabled me to have a wonderful life with my kids as primarily a stay at home mom. The inspirational side of the business has become my trademark and is what really helps set me a part from the other scrubs out there.
